Who appoints you?
The family court appoints child advocates and guardians. A private request cannot replace the court order.
Are you the child’s lawyer?
“Child’s lawyer” is a simplified description. A Verfahrensbeistand has a distinct statutory role and is not a lawyer in the usual sense.
Does the child have to speak with you?
A conversation is offered and prepared appropriately. Pressure and rehearsed answers are not helpful. Age, development, stress and the child’s expressed wishes are respected.
Are conversations confidential?
I explain in advance which information is relevant and may need to be communicated. Absolute confidentiality usually cannot be promised within a court mandate.
Which languages do you use?
German, Romanian and English. A qualified interpreter may be required for other languages.
Where do you work?
Berlin and Brandenburg. Travel up to approximately 150 km is assessed individually.
